Butler wins DC’s first HCAC Tennis Title, Jackets finish 3rd

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—Defiance College’s Nathan Butler became the first Yellow Jacket to win the HCAC Tennis Championship with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Joe Merrick of Franklin College in Saturday’s #2 singles final.

Stephan Faerber finished third in #1 singles play, defeating Cameron Scott of Anderson, 6-3, 6-0, while Wes Auld came in third place at the #6 spot with a 2-6, 6-0, 6-4 win over Zach Moore of Hanover.

Faerber and Butler combined for a third place finish at #1 doubles with a 7-5, 6-4 defeat of Anderson. The Yellow Jackets won six of their nine matches on Saturday.

DC ended the HCAC Tournament in third place, the best-ever finish for DC in the Heartland Conference and a vast improvement from their sixth place finish a year ago. The Jackets ended behind champion Transylvania and runner-up Franklin College.
