DC Men’s Tennis finishes third in HCAC Tournament

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Defiance College Men’s Tennis team finished third in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, marking the second straight year with a third-place finish.

Tyler Ault won #6 singles, beating Kyle Herren of tournament-champion Transylvania University 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. Ault finishes the season with a perfect 11-0 conference record in singles play.

Stefan Faerber was runner-up in #1 singles, falling to Jody Mitchell of the tournament-champion Transylvania University in the finals by the score 6-2, 6-4.

Jared Sponseller finished third in #4 singles, beating Pete Martin of Bluffton University 7-6 (4), 6-3. Tim Kurtz finished fourth in #2 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Daniel Rodriguez of Manchester College. Adam Fausey placed fifth in #3 singles, and Karl Eustache placed sixth in #5 singles.

In doubles play, Sponseller and Jeff Meyer finished third in #3 doubles, beating Brad Simcoe and Timothy Cantwell of Anderson University 8-5. Kurtz and Ault finished third in #2 doubles via injury default. Faerber and Fausey finished fourth in #1 doubles with an 8-4 win over Cameron Scott and Jeremy Zerkle of Anderson University.

DC finished the regular season with a record of 10-11 overall and 4-2 in the HCAC.
