INDIANAPOLIS The Defiance College men’s tennis team saw its 2008 season come to a close on Saturday in the form of a 5-3 loss to fourth-seeded Hanover College in the first round of the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday.
The Jackets earned the fifth seed for the tournament after winning four of its last five matches in league play to draw even at 4-4 in conference action. One of those four defeats came to Hanover back on April 5 by a 5-2 score.
Defiance entered play on Saturday hoping to stay hot and turn the tables on the Panthers, but HC managed to pull out the 5-3 victory after winning two doubles matches and three of the five singles competitions.
Austin Kleman and Adam Fausey secured Defiance’s only two wins in singles play, topping Hanover at the No. 2 and 3 singles slots. DC’s other point came via a victory from Tim Kurtz and Fausey at No. 1 doubles.
The Yellow Jackets close out the 2008 season with a 9-15 record.
