Jackets Split Singles Play in Loss to Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio – Austin Kleman followed up his HCAC Player-of-the-Week selection on Monday with his sixth-straight victory at No. 2 singles, but it would not be enough as Defiance fell 6-3 at Heidelberg.

The Yellow Jackets dropped all three doubles contests and faced a stiff 3-0 deficit heading into singles competition against the Berg. Defiance managed to split the six singles matches and had to settle for the 6-3 defeat.

Kleman remained hot and pulled out a 6-4, 5-7, 10-7 victory over Moody Al-Turk at No. 2 singles. Lachmond Bratton and Joe Caig also came away winners in their respective matches at No. 4 and 5 singles.

Defiance (8-13) will round out its regular season at home on Tuesday. The Jackets will host Transylvania at noon, before playing Anderson at 4:00 pm. Tuesday’s action will determine DC’s seeding entering the HCAC Tournament on Saturday in Indianapolis.
