DC Tennis splits in first two days at Hilton Head

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Defiance College Men’s Tennis team began its spring break on a winning note with its first win of the season, defeating the University of Scranton, PA Sunday afternoon by the score 6-3. However, DC could not make it two in a row today, as the Jackets fell to Heidelberg College 3-6.

In the victory against Scranton, the Jackets got wins in singles play from Cody Nash, Ashton Converse, Nate Schwarzbek, and Mike Mack. Each player won in straight sets in flights 2, 3, 4, and 6, respectively.

In doubles play, Converse and Schwarzbek gained an 8-3 victory over Michael Arrighi and Connor Dempsey in the second flight, while Mack and Aaron Cottos beat Steven Russon and Kevin Whitman 8-6 in the third flight.

Against Heidelberg, Tim Kurtz picked up DC’s lone wins in singles and doubles play. He, along with Nash, defeated Paul Evans and Max Norris 8-5 in #1 doubles. In #1 singles, Kurtz won a close match against Evans by the score 6-2, 7-6.

Due to rescheduling, Defiance (1-3) will play Lake Forest College tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m.
