Yellow Jacket Tennis returns from Hilton Head with two wins

HILTON HEAD, S.C. - The DC Yellow Jacket Men's Tennis Team returned home from its yearly trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina with two victories and experience going into the rest of the regular season.
In the first match of the trip, the Jackets took on Gettysburg College on March 12. DC dropped the match 8-1, with Tyler Ault and Stefan Faerber picking up the lone win in #2 doubles. Later that day, DC paired up with Macalester College, where the Jackets would fall 3-6. Ault and Faerber earned another #2 doubles victory in the match, while Jared Sponseller and Jeff Meyer won their #3 doubles match by the score 9-8 (7-3). Karl Eustache also earned his second win of the season in #5 singles.
On March 13, the Yellow Jackets would earn their first victory of the season with a 7-2 win over Greenville College. Five Jackets picked up wins in singles play, including Tim Kurtz who picked up his second win of the year in straight sets, but the first in actual play, as his previous victory by way of an injury default.
The following day saw DC drop two matches against Concordia University-Wisconsin and Slippery Rock University by the scores 4-5 and 1-5, respectively. In the match against Concordia, DC was one game away from gaining the team victory when Adam Fausey had match point in #3 singles, yet a valiant comeback by Concordia would eventually secure the win. Against Slippery Rock, Jared Sponseller and Jeff Meyer gained the sole victory in #3 doubles.
On March 15, DC picked up its second win of the trip with a 6-3 win over Principia College. The team picked up wins in #2 and #3 doubles, along with #3, #4, #5, and #6 singles. All singles wins were in straight sets.
On the last day of play, DC could not go out on a winning note, losing to Fairleigh Dickinson 3-6 on Thursday, March 16. Sponseller picked up wins in #3 doubles and #4 singles.
For the trip, the team went 2-5. Sponseller and Meyer went 6-1 in #3 doubles and move to 8-1 overall on the year. Tyler Ault went 3-3 at #6 singels and 4-3 in #2 doubles.
Jared Sponseller teamed up with Jeff Meyer for a #3 doubles win against Kelly and Wilson of Alma. This is the duo's first doubles win of the season together, though Meyer has one previous doubles win this season. Meyer picked up his first doubles win with teammate Karl Eustache also on February 18 against Baldwin-Wallace College.
The Jackets will play their home opener on Wednesday, March 22 at 3:30 p.m. when they host Tri-State University
