DEFIANCE, Ohio- With its 6-3 win over Tiffin University Monday afternoon, the Defiance College Men’s Tennis team picked up its ninth win of the season, which is the most the team has had in over ten years.

Last season’s team finished 8-10 with a third place finish in the HCAC Tournament. This year’s Yellow Jacket squad, after having dropped its first six matches of the year, went on a 9-5 run and looks poised to make some noise at the HCAC Tournament this weekend.

Jeff Meyer and Jared Sponseller earned their third win in four matches in #3 doubles, beating Andy Mortek and Josh Grondin 8-4. Sponseller also kept his winning streak intact in #4 singles, extending it to four with a win over Grondin 6-4, 6-3. Tyler Ault earned his ninth consecutive win in #6 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Rick Donaldson.

Defiance, now 9-11 (3-2 HCAC) on the year, hosts Bluffton University Tuesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in its final match of the regular season before the HCAC Tournament.
