Jackets earn split with Centre College

Danville, KY-- The Defiance College softball team kicked off its season by splitting a doubleheader with Centre College on Friday in Danville, Kentucky.

In the first game of the twin bill, Kayla Crager and Melanie Bushman each doubled for the Jackets. Bushman also added a homer to go along with her double. Justine Johnston was charged with the loss, striking out four batters and giving up nine hits.

Kelsey Sugg starred for the Jackets in game two, blasting two home runs and leading DC to a 10-2 victory, earning a split. Monica Sigurdson hit for three singles, and Jessica Smith added two of her own for DC. Brittany Sims earned the win on the mound, going six innings and striking out four.

DC returns to action on Sunday with two games in Florida as part of the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic.
