Steffen Named ESPN The Magazine Academic First-Team All-District IV

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Renee Steffen has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV First Team as voted on and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The award recognizes student athletes for outstanding achievements in the classroom as well as on the playing field. In order to be eligible for this award, the athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have reached sophomore status or higher academically, participate in over half of the team’s games and play a key role in those games.

Steffen led the Heartland Conference during her senior season by batting at a .429 clip at the plate and was second among all players in the league with a .477 on-base percentage and 32 runs batted in.

The Leipsic, Ohio, native posted a cumulative grade-point average of 3.99 while majoring in marketing and management.

Steffen recently earned her second-straight selection onto the All-HCAC Team and was also named as DC’s Most Outstanding Female Athlete for 2007.

Steffen will now be placed on the ballot for Academic All-America. Voting for the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Teams will be announced on May 30.
