DC's Steffen Earns Academic All-America Honors

| DEFIANCE, Ohio Renee Steffen was recently selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Softball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Steffen was named First Team Academic All-America after leading the Heartland Conference with a .429 batting average during her senior season. The shortstop was also second among all players in the league with a .477 on-base clip and 32 runs batted in.
The Leipsic, Ohio, native was even more impressive in the classroom, where she posted a 3.99 cumulative grade-point average en route to a degree in marketing and management.
Steffen was also named All-HCAC for the second-straight season as well as DC’s Most Outstanding Female Athlete for 2007 and was previously named to ESPN The Magazine’s Academic All-District IV First Team.

| Joining Steffen on the First-Team Academic All-America list at Megan Brown (Florida Southern), Maria Bye (St. Thomas), Samantha Borgeson (Abilene Christian), Laura Kot (Mount Vernon Nazarene), Sarah Morse (Emory), Molly Coers (Illinois Wesleyan), Lynndi Decker (Minnesota State), Nicole Barker (St. Xavier), Beth Cann (Elmhurst) and Jenny Hess (Alabama-Huntsville).
The award recognizes student athletes for outstanding achievements in the classroom as well as on the playing field. In order to be eligible for this award, the athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at their current institution and be nominated by their sports information director.
