GREENWOOD, Ind. Marah Robinson was one of three Jackets to earn All-HCAC honors, after being named the HCAC’s Freshman of the Year. This marks the second time that a DC player has won the award, after Kelsey Sugg did so in 2005. Joining Robinson on the All-HCAC list were Mallory Faling and Justine Johnston.
Robinson has been one of Defiance’s top hitters all season, leading the team in batting average (.372), hits (42), runs (30) and homeruns (7). Her impressive season included a four-hit performance in the HCAC Championship game, including a solo homerun to tie the game in the seventh inning. Robinson leads the Jackets with 11 multi-hit games, while ranking in the top five in the HCAC in four statistical categories.
Faling emerged as one of DC’s top offensive threats this season, hitting .316 with five homeruns and a team-leading 29 RBI. The freshman catcher had a strong month at the plate in April, hitting .340 with two long balls and 13 RBI in the month. Faling helped the

Jackets lock up HCAC Tournament championship with a three-run homer in the 13th inning to push the Defiance lead to four runs.
Johnston earned All-HCAC honors for the third consecutive year, after leading the HCAC with 16 wins. The three-time HCAC Pitcher of the Week selection compiled a 7-2 record with an ERA of 1.10 in HCAC contests, while finishing second in the HCAC with four shutouts. She posted career-highs in ERA (1.79), innings pitched (156.2) and complete games (22), ranking in the top five in seven statistical categories. The junior hurler won nine of her last ten starts, posting a 1.12 ERA during that span.
Defiance (22-16) will return to the diamond on Thursday, May 8, when it faces top-seeded Ithaca College in the opening game of the NCAA Regional Tournament. The game is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
