Jacket Softball falls at Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio—The Defiance College Softball team lost a pair of games at Denison University on Sunday afternoon, falling to 7-9 on the season.

Kalette Peters hit her second home run of the season in DC’s 4-7 game two loss. Peters led the Jackets offensively with a 3-for-7 day at the plate with two runs and the lone RBI. Game one saw the Big Red pitching hold Defiance on one run on four hits. Four DC errors cost the Jackets as Denison scored three runs in the first to take immediate control.

Kelly VanderHorst had the Jackets lone RBI of game one, drawing a bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning.

In game two, Peters’ bat was joined by Erica Franks’ and Kelsey Sugg’s. Sugg singled in the seventh to score Chris Moreo after Franks drove in Jessica Smith on a first-inning one-bagger.

Alicia Allen got the loss in game one, going four innings, giving up four earned runs on six hits. Mandy Crank came on in relief, striking out one in two innings of work.

Robin Diers went six innings in game two, striking out four, while giving up four earned runs on 10 hits.

The Yellow Jackets will next host Adrian College on Monday in a double-header starting at 4:00 p.m.
