Jackets Rebounds with 9-0 Pounding of Franklin

BLUFFTON, Ohio – After yesterday’s game was called in the third inning due to increment weather, Defiance College and Franklin College resumed their game on Saturday, April 12 at Bluffton University. The DC offense proved it was worth the wait, scoring six runs in the third inning as the Jackets picked up a 9-0 victory in five innings.

The two teams continued Friday’s game this afternoon, picking back up in the home half of the third with Defiance at the plate. Elizabeth Petrie drew a bases-loaded walk to score Marah Robinson and get things going for the Jackets. Nicole Diers followed that up with a two-run single to push the Defiance lead to three runs, 5-0. Laurel Palk added a two-run double in the inning to give DC a 7-0 advantage heading into the fourth inning.

Diers. Kelly Schnipke pitched a perfect fifth to end the game due to the NCAA run rule. Schnipke (3-3) had her best outing of the season, scattering just two hits over her five shutout innings.

Palk, Robinson and Mallory Faling each had two hits and two RBI in the game for Defiance. Petrie recorded two RBI, despite no official at-bats after drawing three walks. Diers drove in a career-high three runs in the game, while Davis finished with one hit and one run.

Defiance (11-12) will return to action on Tuesday, April 15, when it hosts a HCAC doubleheader with Manchester College. The opening game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
