DC's Melanie Bushman named HCAC Player of the Week

GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Defiance College’s Melanie Bushman (Harrison, Ohio/Patrick Henry) guided the Yellow Jackets to a perfect 6-0 record last week and has been named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Hitter of the Week.

The freshman first baseman was 11-for-20 (.550) at the plate in the six contests and notched seven runs, seven RBI, four doubles and a home run. She recoded at least one hit and one run in each game and had four multi-hit outings.

In Defiance’s 7-1 win over Franklin on Apr. 21, Bushman was 2-for-3 with one run, three RBI and two doubles. She is hitting .333 on the year with 16 RBI and nine doubles.

Defiance is 23-11 overall and 6-2 in the HCAC.
