DC Softball falls to Anderson in HCAC Tournament
Nick Williams, Assistant SID
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Defiance College Softball team dropped its first game of the HCAC Tournament, losing to Anderson University by the score 5-1.
The Ravens got on the board first, scoring an unearned run in the top of the first inning on an RBI groundout. In the following inning, the Jackets put themselves in a deeper hole, as Anderson stretched its lead to 4-0, putting up three runs in the inning, all with two outs. DC was able to put one on the board in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI groundout by Alicia Allen, but the offensive production would end there, as DC was held to only one more hit for the remainder of the game. Anderson put up one more insurance run in the top of the seventh in the form of a home run to secure the victory.
Alicia Allen gave up five runs (four earned) in seven innings on nine hits and one walk with a strikeout. Jessica Smith went 1-for-3 and scored the Jackets' lone run. Renee Steffen, Kayla Crager, and Amanda Auzins each picked up a hit in the game.
DC still has a chance to make it to the championship game if they win out in the loser's bracket. The team plays either Hanover College or Bluffton University at 5:00 p.m.
