Jackets swarm all over Heidelberg

Defiance vs Heidelberg: Game 1 / Game 2
DEFIANCE, Ohio The Defiance College Softball team put together its most potent offensive performance of the season with a pair of double-digit wins against Heidelberg College, as the team swept the doubleheader by the scores 12-2 and 17-1.
In the first game, DC opened up the game with a four-spot in the first, highlighted by a two-RBI triple by Amanda Auzins. In the second, DC kept the pressure on the Student Princes in the next inning, bringing around all nine batters to the plate. When the top of the third began, DC had put up six runs in the inning to take a 10-0 lead. The Jackets added a run in each of the third and fourth innings for added measure.

Justine Johnston kept Heidelberg at bay, surrendering only two runs on seven hits while striking out five. Four Jackets had multiple hits in the game, including Auzins, who was a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with three RBIs and three runs scored. Kelsey Sugg put up two hits with two runs scored and an RBI, while Stephanie Lieto had a hit and two RBIs.
The second game was a one-sided affair that was decided early in the game. DC put on an offensive barrage, bringing 17 batters to see action. Ten hits and four errors later, the Jackets held a 12-0 lead after the first and never looked back. In the following inning, DC added to the lead by bringing around five to score, capped off by two-RBI hits by Melanie Bushman and Kayla Crager. Heidelberg’s
Dessiree Burtch homered in the fourth, but proved to be too little too late.
Robin Diers picked up her seventh win of the year, tossing a three-hitter with the only run given coming via the long ball. Krystle Skaziak, Aarika Davis, and Renee Steffen each had three-hit games for DC with Steffen adding four RBIs and Davis three of her own. Auzins had two more hits in the game, along with two runs and an RBI.
Defiance (15-15, 6-0 HCAC) gets back to the .500 mark and will look to maintain its perfect conference record Saturday against Mount St. Joseph at noon.
