Jackets Fall in Opening Round of NCAA Regionals

ITHACA, N.Y. – Defiance lost to top-seeded Ithaca College, 9-0, in the opening round of the NCAA Regional Tournament on Thursday, May 8. The loss snaps DC’s four-game winning streak as the Jackets have won 12 of their last 17 games.

The Bombers took control of the game early, scoring eight runs in the bottom half of the first inning. They tacked on another run in the second, but were shut down the rest of the way by Defiance senior pitcher Robin Diers.

DC was unable to get any offense going in the game, managing only four hits in the contest. Marah Robinson led the Jackets with two hits and is now batting .588 in her last five contests. Aarika Davis and Stephanie Lieto also recorded base hits for Defiance.

Justine Johnston (16-7) took the loss for DC, surrendering eight runs, one earned, in 0.2 innings.

Robinson is hitting .588 in her last five contests.

Diers came into relieve Johnston in the first, giving up one unearned run in 3.1 innings.

Defiance (22-17) will play Lebanon Valley on Friday, May 9 at 10:00 a.m.
