Johnston Named Academic All-District IV

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Justine Johnston has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV Second Team as voted on and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The award recognizes student athletes for outstanding achievements in the classroom as well as on the playing field. In order to be eligible for this award, the athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have reached sophomore status or higher academically, participate in over half of the team’s games and play a key role in those games.

Johnston played a crucial role in DC’s HCAC Tournament run, going 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA to help the Jackets claim the title and earn the HCAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Regional Tournament. The Wauseon, Ohio native is currently 17-7 with a 1.79 ERA, while leading the HCAC in wins and innings pitched (164.1). She earned HCAC Pitcher-of-the-Week honors three times this season, while also being named to the All-HCAC team for the third time in her career.

Johnston is 17-7 with a 1.79 ERA this season.

The junior posted a 3.86 cumulative grade-point average, majoring in elementary education.

Johnston will take the mound for DC tomorrow as the Jackets will look to set a school-record with two NCAA Tournament victories this season.
