GREENWOOD, Ind. – Justine Johnston helped Defiance to a 9-1 opening day victory over Manhattanville College on March 9 and has been named the HCAC Pitcher of the Week. This marks the fourth time in her career that Johnston has earned this recognition.
The junior hurler threw a complete game, limiting the three-time defending Skyline Conference champions to three hits. Johnston also had four strikeouts on the game as she is now one short of 250 career strikeouts. She finishes the week 1-0 with a 1.00 ERA.
The two-time All-HCAC selection came into the season with a 29-16 mark over her last two seasons, pitching 34 complete games and recording eight shutouts during that span.
Defiance (2-2) returns to action on Wednesday, March 12, when it plays Heidelberg and Husson with the games starting at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
