GREENWOOD, Ind. – Justine Johnston went 2-1 this week, including throwing a one-hit shutout against Hiram and has been named the HCAC Pitcher of the Week. This marks the second time this season and the fifth time in her three-year career that Johnston has earned this recognition.
The junior hurler threw three complete games this week, finishing the week with a 1.47 ERA and 15 strikeouts after holding opponents scoreless over her last ten innings of work. She gave up one run in Thursday’s 9-1 victory over Albion, while helping her own cause with a two-run triple in the first inning.
Johnston is 4-3 on the season with a 2.39 ERA, throwing seven complete games and striking out 28 batters in 44 innings of work. The two-time All-HCAC selection has compiled a 33-19 record in her three seasons, while also surpassing the 250 career strikeout plateau earlier this year.
Defiance (6-7) returns to action on Wednesday, April 2, when it travels to Heidelberg College for a doubleheader that begins at 3:00 p.m.
