Johnston Garners Third HCAC Weekly Honor

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Justine Johnston had shutouts in back-to-back starts this week, helping DC clinch a spot in the HCAC tournament and has been named the HCAC Pitcher of the Week. This marks the third time this season and the sixth time in her three-year career that Johnston has earned this recognition.

The junior hurler earned the victory in all three of the Jackets’ wins this week, going 3-1 with a 1.46 ERA on the week. She limited Bluffton and Transylvania to a combined five hits in her two shutouts, while also helping DC grab the No. 3 seed after limiting Mount St. Joseph to just one run in seven innings in Defiance’s victory.

Johnston is 13-6 on the season with a 1.96 ERA, while leading the HCAC with four shutouts on the season. The two-time All-HCAC selection has compiled a 42-25 record during her three seasons with the Jackets, while also surpassing the 300 career strikeout plateau earlier this year.

Johnston finished the week 3-1 with an 1.46 ERA.

Defiance (19-16) returns to action this weekend at the HCAC Tournament on the campus of Rose-Hulman. The opening games of the tournament will begin on Friday, May 2.
