Jackets earn 2-0 start in HCAC with wins at MC

N. Manchester, Ind.—The Defiance College Softball team scored a two-game sweep at Manchester College to improve to 10-10 on the year and start the HCAC slate with a 2-0 record.

DC took the first game 5-4 before earning a 8-4 win in the second contest. Alicia Allen earned the win in game one with a 4.1 innings stint, allowing three earned runs on seven hits. Robin Diers was game two’s winning pitcher, going all seven innings and allowing three earned runs on 10 hits.

Chris Moreo led the Jackets offensively in the 5-4 win, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs. Erica Franks also went 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run. Kelly VanderHorst also drove in a run in her 2-for-4 performance.

In game two, Kelsey Sugg led DC with a 2-for-4 day at the plate with a double and two RBI. Kacy VanderHorst went 2-for-5 with two doubles, one RBI and two runs, while Jessica Smith drove in two runs in a 2-for-4 performance.

Defiance moves into an important conference road swing as they travel to Franklin College on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. (CST) double header before going to Hanover College on Sunday for a twin bill starting at noon (CST).
