DC Softball splits with ONU

DEFIANCE, Ohio—Heading into their final game of the regular season, the DC Yellow Jacket softball squad (21-13) split a doubleheader with the visiting Polar Bears of Ohio Northern (18-21) on Friday afternoon at Hench Field.

In the 1-0 game one win, Alicia Allen, Robin Diers and Mandy Crank combined for the win with Diers earning the win in her two innings of work, striking out one and allowing just one hit. Allen struck out four, while Crank retired 3-of-4 batters faced. Kacy VanderHorst brought home the lone run of the game on a sixth-inning single that scored Kalette Peters.

In the 4-5 game two loss, Crank went all seven innings, striking out three and allowing four earned runs on 12 hits. Erica Franks led the Jackets offensively, going 3-for-3 with two RBI. Trailing 2-5 in the bottom of the seventh, DC got two runs across on a ground out and an error, before the Bears shut the door.

Defiance will face Transylvania in the regular season and HCAC finale tomorrow (4/30) at 1:00 p.m. at Hench Field.
