Jackets Drop Final Two Games in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Defiance College softball team dropped its final two games in Florida, falling 5-1 to Simpson and 6-1 to Mount Union on Thursday, March 13.

In the first game against Simpson, DC was unable to capitalize on its scoring opportunities for the second game in a row. Defiance scored its only run of the game in the sixth inning when Aarika Davis was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Laurel Palk. The Jackets were unable to tack on any more runs in the inning, while stranding seven runners over the course of the game.

Marah Robinson continued her strong start, going 2-for-3 for the third consecutive game. Justine Johnston took the loss for the Jackets, falling to 2-2 on the season.

DC once again struggled offensively in the second game as Mount Union limited the Jackets to two hits for the game. Defiance scored its only run of the game when Stephanie Lieto’s RBI single plated Palk, who scored her second run of the day on the play.

Robin Diers took the loss for the Jackets, giving up five runs in the game. Kelly Schnipke came in to relieve, limiting the Purple Raiders to one run over the last few innings of the game.

Defiance (3-5) will play its first game up north, when it hosts Alma on Wednesday, March 19 at Sal Hench Field. The game is slated to start at 3:00 p.m.
