DC Softball splits first two games in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Defiance College Softball team went 1-1 in its first day of the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, Florida, defeating Franklin & Marshall College 6-5, then falling to McDaniel College 3-2.

Robin Diers picked up DC’s first win of the 2007 season, pitching five innings and giving up only five hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Kayla Crager came on to pitch two innings of relief, scattering four hits.

Amanda Auzins had a big offensive day, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. HCAC Player of the Week Aarika Davis batted 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.Kelsey Sugg also picked up two hits on the day while adding an RBI.

In the loss against McDaniel College, Justine Johnston pitched a strong game but was unable to come away with the win. Johnston pitched a complete game, giving up five hits while striking out eight. Auzins had another stellar offensive performance, with two hits in four at-bats and an RBI. Sugg had a perfect game from the plate, going 2-for-2 in the effort.

Defiance (1-3) will take on Springfield College tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m., then Manhattanville College at 3:00 p.m.
