ORLANDO, Fla. – The Defiance College Softball team split another pair of games today down in Florida, this time to Springfield College and Manhattanville College. The Jackets took the game against Springfield by a slim 8-7 margin before falling to Manhattanville 6-1.

Monica Sigurdson had an impressive offensive showing against Springfield, with a 2-for-2 performance with three RBIs in the game. Renee Steffen went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.

Robin Diers picked up the win in the game, going four innings and giving up six hits and one walk. Justine Johnston came on in relief in the fifth, scattering eight hits while striking out two to earn the first save of her career.

Johnston was the pitcher of record in the Manhattanville outing, entering in the fourth after Julie Miller pitched three innings of five-hit ball. Johnston gave up three hits and two walks with two punchouts en route to the loss.

Steffen had two more hits in the game, while Melanie Bushman and Whitney Risner each contributing a hit. Aarika Davis ended with the lone RBI for the Yellow Jackets.

Defiance (2-4) heads back to the field tomorrow for two early-bird games. The Yellow Jackets will take on Fitchburg State College at 9:00 a.m. and Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts at 11:00 a.m.
