ORLANDO, Fla. – The Defiance College Softball team had another day of .500 ball as the Jackets split a pair of matchups against Fitchburg State College and Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. DC fell in the first game against Fitchburg State by a scant 4-5 margin in extra innings, but was able to bounce back in the following game, shutting out Massachusetts 6-0.

Justine Johnston could not gain the victory in the first matchup, throwing the final three innings of the ballgame. In the effort, she gave up seven hits and two walks while striking out three batters.

Aarika Davis had four hits and two RBIs on the day

Aarika Davis continued her torrid hitting with a 2-for-4 performance with a double and an RBI. Melanie Bushman contributed two hits and an RBI of her own, while Kayla Crager added a pinch-hit RBI.

Robin Diers had another solid outing, pitching a six-hit, four-K shutout against Massachusetts College. Diers appears to be the Yellow Jackets’ stopper thus far this season, as she has all three of DC’s wins.

The Yellow Jacket offense came to life, as the team cranked out 12 hits in the game. Davis and Bushman each carried their respective offensive outputs in the nightcap, with both players going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Renee Steffen also pitched in with two hits in the game.

DC will have Thursday off to rest and recuperate after its six-game stretch in three days and will face off Friday in its final day of competition at the Rebel Spring Games, taking on Penn State-Behrend at 3:00 p.m.
