Robinson Shines as DC Splits with Tiffin

Defiance at Tiffin: Game One / Game Two

TIFFIN, Ohio – Defiance won the opening game of its doubleheader with Tiffin, 4-2, before falling by the same score in the nightcap on Tuesday, April 8.

The Jackets used a three-run fifth inning to take control of the opening game of its doubleheader with Tiffin. Marah Robinson’s single scored Laurel Palk to put DC on the scoreboard with a 1-0 lead. Justine Johnston drew a bases-loaded walk to score Robinson to push the Defiance lead to two, 2-0. Allison Ramsay singled to score Mallory Faling to round out the scoring for the inning as the Jackets led 3-0 through four and half.

Tiffin responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to pull within one run, 3-2, but DC would add an insurance run in the top of the sixth. Faling doubled to score Robinson to give Defiance a 4-2 lead, before Johnston shut the door on the Dragons.

Robinson went 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI in the opener.

The junior hurler finished off the game with two scoreless innings to preserve the win, improving her record to 7-4 this season. Johnston held Tiffin to just two runs on seven hits in her seven innings of work, while striking out a season-high 10 batters.

The Dragons jumped out to an early 3-0 lead through the first five innings in the nightcap. Robinson’ put the Jackets on the board with a single in the top of the sixth to score Palk and Amanda Auzins and pull them within one run, 3-2. However, Tiffin would add another run in the home half of the inning to help the Dragons to a 4-2 victory. Kelly Schnipke had a solid outing on the mound for Defiance, giving up only one earned run in her six innings of work.

Robinson led the DC offensive attack with three hits on the day, while also driving in three runs. Palk finished the day with two hits and two runs, while Lieto had two hits in the doubleheader for the Jackets.

Defiance (10-11) will return to action on Friday, April 11, when it hosts a HCAC doubleheader with Franklin College. The opening game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
