Jackets Fall To Visiting Tri-State

DEFIANCE, Ohio--- The Defiance College Yellow Jackets opened their home season with a pair of losses, 3-4 and 3-0, at the hands of visiting Tri-State University Thunder.

Game one was pushed to extra innings on a 1-1 tie after seven innings of play. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Tri-State’s Brittany Zimmerman scored on an Alicia Allen wild pitch, but DC rallied back and Laurel Palk scored on a Chris Moreo single down the right field line. In the second extra inning, Emily Smith singled to center field scoring Rainbow Bednarski. Kelly VanderHorst had the chance to push the game to a third extra inning but was called out at home on a controversial play involving the catcher.

In game two, rookie Robin Diers could not tame the Tri-State batters and gave up two runs on six hits in 5.1 innings. Tri-State picked up another run and hit off Mandy Crank in 1.2 innings.

The Jackets will return to action Thursday, Mar. 31 when they travel to Heidelberg University. First place will be thrown at 3:00 p.m.
