DC Duo Named to USTFCCCA All-Academic Team

NEW ORLEANS Eric Swartz and Brad Zarembski have each been named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III All-Academic Track and Field Team, the second consecutive season the two have earned the distinction. The DC duo joins 158 other student-athletes to receive the honor.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event...(read more)

NOTRE DAME, Ind. Brad Zarembski has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Third Team as voted on and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

DEFIANCE, Ohio Eric Swartz and Brad Zarembski have each been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV First Team, while Samantha Higdon has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV Second Team as voted on and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Matuszak Named Outdoor All-American

NEW ORLEANS, La. Trevor Matuszak’s second-place finish in the hammer throw helped him garner Division III Outdoor All-American honors, after The USTFCCCA announced its All-American Teams on Sunday May 25. The senior becomes Defiance’s eighth All-American selection, marking the second consecutive season that a DC athlete has earned such a distinction. His eight points in the meet led the Jackets to a 37th-place finish.

Matuszak Finishes Runner-Up at Outdoor Nationals

OSHKOSH, Wisc.Trevor Matuszak earned a second-place finish in the hammer throw at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Championships on May 23. He is set to become Defiance’s eighth track & field All-American when the official list is announced next week.
The Ottawa Lake, Mich. native threw 189-03.00 feet in his first throw of finals to take the lead after the first five throws. St. Thomas’ Mark O’Connell threw 191-00.00 on his final attempt to claim the individual crown.

Matuszak Named Regional Field Athlete of the Year

NEW ORLEANS, La. Trevor Matuszak was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s 2008 Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year, adding to his long list of accolades of this season.
The senior claimed All-Ohio and HCAC Championship titles this season in the hammer throw, while also automatically qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the event.
