Matuszak Repeats as HCAC Male Athlete of the Month

GREENWOOD, Ind. – For the sixth time in eight months a Defiance College student athlete has been named the HCAC Male Athlete of the Month as Trevor Matuszak netted his second straight award on Tuesday, May 6. The two-time winner is the only male track and field athlete to ever receive the honor.

After an incredible indoor season that saw him garner All-American honors in the weight throw, the accolades continue to pile up for Matuszak. The senior track and field performer recorded NCAA qualifying marks in all three of his meets this month... (read more)

Jackets Compete at Joe Banks Invitational

ADA, Ohio –The Defiance College track & field team competed in its first post-season meet this weekend at the Joe Banks Invitational on May 2-3. The Lady Jackets finished second after accumulating 44 points in the meet, while the men’s team scored 52 points to earn a third-place finish.

Trevor Matuszak and Brad Zarembski each garnered event titles for DC. Matuszak, who is yet to beaten in the hammer throw this season, won the event by 34 feet with his winning throw of 189-02.00. Zarembski is undefeated in the high jump this outdoor season... (read more)

Eight Jackets Earn All-HCAC Honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. – The Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced its Track & Field awards on Thursday, May 1, 2008. The Defiance College track & field team had eight individual earn distinctions from the conference, following their performances at the HCAC Championships on April 25-26.

DC swept the HCAC’s Most Outstanding Freshman Athlete awards, as Holly Stein and Austin Trivett took home the top honors in that category. Stein scored 28 points in the meet and became the Jackets first Most Outstanding Field Athlete since 2004... (read more)

Jackets Finish Third at HCAC Championships

ANDERSON, Ind. – The Defiance College women’s track & field team finished third at the HCAC Championships on Saturday, April 26, its best finish since the 2003 season. The Jackets scored 125 points in the meet, trailing runner-up Manchester by only six points.

Holly Stein led the way for the Defiance, racking up 28 points in the meet. The freshman grabbed two event titles on the final day of the two-day event, winning the discus (130-00.00) and the javelin (108-02.00) with personal-best marks.

Men Finish Third as Three Capture Event Titles

ANDERSON, Ind. – The Defiance College men’s track & field team finished third at the HCAC Championships on Saturday, April 26, scoring 97 points to improve on its fifth-place finish from a year ago.

Brad Zarembski gave DC its third event title of the 2008 HCAC Championships, winning his second-straight high jump title after clearing 6-06.75. Three Jackets scored in multiple events on the final day, led by freshman Austin Trivett. The Defiance, Ohio native scored 22 points in the meet, finishing fourth in the javelin with a personal-best
