DC Track and Field Eyes Strong Showing at All-Ohio Championships

Complete Schedule of Events

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Defiance College will be sending a large group of athletes to Wednesday’s All-Ohio Outdoor Championships held on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University. Athletes must qualify for the event with their scores leading up to the event and the top eight finishers in each event will be named All-Ohio.

The Yellow Jackets were slated to send 29 athletes to compete in 22 separate events when the meet was originally scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 14. Since the competition is now being held mid-week, that number will be smaller but DC will still be well represented at the state-wide competition.

Among the numerous athletes competing for Defiance, Trevor Matuszak, Brad Zarembski and Samantha Higdon will all be seeded in the top five in their respective events.

Matuszak earned the top seed in the hammer throw event.

Matuszak earned the top seed for the event in the hammer throw and is currently ranked eighth in the entire nation with his top mark of 52.77 meters. Zarembski will be seeded third in the high jump and Higdon is seeded fourth in the women’s hammer throw.

Other top seedings for Defiance include Jessica Lipstraw being seeded sixth in the women’s discuss, Mark Leugers being seeded eighth in the men’s long jump and Kristyn Tooley being seeded 10th in the women’s triple jump.
