Matuszak Wins All-Ohio Championship

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Trevor Matuszak’s throw of 164-09 was exactly 20 feet longer than the next closest competitor and gave the junior the All-Ohio Championship in the hammer throw competition. The Jackets secured eight All-Ohio performances on the men’s side and placed 10th at the state-wide event.

Eric Swartz turned in the best all-around effort on the day for Defiance, earning All-Ohio honors by placing in the top eight in the 110-meter hurdles, javelin and high jump competitions.

Swartz tied with Brad Zarembski for third in the high jump with a score of 6-04.25 and took seventh in the javelin with a toss of 149-00. The Tiffin, Ohio, native also finished eighth and turned in a personal best in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.91. That time was also the seventh-best in DC history.

Matuszak's mark of 164-09 won the hammer throw by 20 feet.

Mark Leugers joined Swartz in winning multiple All-Ohio honors after placing in the long and triple jump events. Leugers ended fourth in the long jump with a leap of 21-00.75 and finished seventh with a score of 40-07.00 in the triple jump.

Matt Fosnaugh rounded out the All-Ohio performances for Defiance by taking eighth in the pole vault with a score of 13-01.50.

Defiance will be at Ohio Northern this Saturday as it competes in the ONU Joe Banks Invitational. The event will be DC’s final competition before the HCAC Championships at Bluffton on April 28.
