Men's Track Takes Four Firsts at DePauw Qualifiers

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The DC men’s track and field team turned in another strong performance on Friday in its final tuneup before the NCAA Indoor Nationals on March 9 and 10. The Yellow Jackets racked up numerous personal bests and scored four first-place finishes at the event.

Freshman Mark Leugers led the charge for the Jackets with wins and personal bests in the 55-meters and long jump events and a top-five effort in the triple jump. Leugers ran a 6.72 to win the 55-meter dash and ripped off a jump of 21-03.50 in the long jump.

Alan Thompson also recorded a personal record en route to winning the triple jump competition with a final distance of 41-11.25 and Trevor Matuszak turned in yet another dominate showing in the weight throw, winning the event with a toss of 51-04.25.

Leugers picked up a pair of wins and a top-five finish.

Other top performances for Defiance included Eric Swartz’s second-place time of 8.50 in the 55-meter hurdles and third-place leap of 6-00.75 in the high jump and Brad Zarembski’s pair of top-five showings in the high and long jump events. Zarembski’s 6-02.75 in the high jump was a personal record for the freshman. Audric Warren also performed well, posting a 41-01.75 in the triple jump for third place.

The Jackets will kick off their outdoor campaign at the University of Cincinnati on March 17 before hosting the Dick Small Invitational on March 24.
