DC Men Excel in Third-Place Finish at Dick Small Invitational

Men's Track and Field Results

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Brad Zarembski won the high jump competition with a leap of 1.92 meters and Trevor Matuszak broke his own school record in the hammer throw while reaching the provisional mark for Nationals as the Yellow Jackets took third place as a team in the 14-team event.

One week after shattering the previous school record in the hammer throw, Matuszak raised the bar by nearly nine more feet and qualified for the NCAA Nationals on provisionary status with a throw of 52.77 meters.

Zarembski notched a first in the high jump and also took second place in the long jump competition to lead a well-balanced DC attack on its home facility.

Sprinters Mark Leugers and Eric Swartz led the way on the track, as Leugers took fifth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.69 and Swartz finished second with a time of 16.85 in the 110-meter hurdles. Swartz also added a fourth-place finish in the high jump.

Zarembski took first and second in the high and long jumps.

Alan Thompson posted a mark of 12.20 meters in the triple jump, leading Defiance with a third-place effort and Daniel Orta (third) and Kallin St. John (sixth) rounded out the list of top-performing Yellow Jackets with solid outings in the shot put.

DC will compete at the Bluffton Invitational on Saturday before returning home to host the Yellow Jacket Open on April 5.
