2007 HCAC Championship Results

BLUFFTON, Ohio – Defiance saw Laura Derov and Samantha Higdon win HCAC Championships on the women’s side with Trevor Matuszak and Brad Zarembski claiming titles on the men’s side. DC took fifth in both the men’s and women’s team standings.

DC’s crop of standout freshmen throwers led the charge for the Lady Jackets as Derov’s mark of 38-05.50 won the shot put and Higdon’s 142-11 in the hammer throw was good for the top mark.

Kristyn Tooley narrowly missed a third first-place finish for Defiance when she was edged by one half inch in the triple jump competition.

Other top performances included Amanda Misencik, Tooley, Aubry Schafer and Kristin Goldstein taking third in the 4x100 relay and Misencik finishing fifth and sixth in the 100 and 200-meter races.

Higdon took first in the women's hammer.

The DC men turned in several top-five finishes, highlighted by the event championships won by Matuszak and Zarembski. Matuszak set a new personal best and won the hammer throw by over 12 feet with a throw of 173-08 and Zarembski turned in a leap of 6-06.50 in the high jump which was just short of his best.

Mark Leugers took top-four finishes in the 100, 200 and long jump and Eric Swartz finished second in the 110-meter hurdles and fourth in the high jump.

Other top performers included Alan Thompson and Audric Warren’s third and fourth-place showing in the triple jump, Matt Fosnaugh’s third in the pole vault and Daniel Orta’s fourth in the shot put competition.

Defiance will be back in action on May 4 when it competes at the Toledo Open.
