Zarembski Hits NCAA National Provisional Mark at ONU

ADA, Ohio – Brad Zarembski set a personal best en route to winning the high jump competition with a leap of 6-07.50 on Saturday at the ONU Joe Banks Invitational. The 6-07.50 was the third-best score in DC history and also provisionally qualified Zarembski for the NCAA Nationals.

The Yellow Jackets performed well across the board in their final tune up heading into the HCAC Championships with the men posting numerous top finishes and the women winning the team competition.

The Lady Jackets swept the 100 and 200-meter races, taking the top three spots in each event. Amanda Misencik won each race and was followed by Kristin Goldstein and Kristyn Tooley in the 100 and Aubry Schafer and Kelly Neff in the 200.

Zarembski's 6-07.50 was the third-best leap in DC history.

Julie Kern made it a clean sweep for DC in the high jump, winning the women’s side with a jump of 5-01.75. Schafer took second in the long jump with a distance of 15-01.25 and Tooley won the triple jump with a 33-03.75.

Zarembski highlighted a strong showing for the men with his win in the high jump and also scored top three finishes in the long and triple jump events.

Trevor Matuszak, who joins Zarembski as the two DC athletes to provisionally qualify for Nationals, posted another victory in the hammer throw with a toss of 168-08 and Eric Swartz won the two-day decathlon with 5575 total points.

Other top performances included Benji Hughes taking second in the javelin with a heave of 140-01 and Daniel Orta finishing third in the shot put with a toss of 45-00.50.

Defiance will now set its eyes on the HCAC Championships which will be held at Bluffton on April 28.
