GREENWOOD, Ind. – Trevor Matuszak was named as the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week on Monday after shattering the previous Defiance school record in the hammer throw and placing second at the University of Cincinnati Relays.
Matuszak opened the 2007 outdoor season in style on Saturday, highlighting a strong Yellow Jacket performance with a toss of 165-02 in the hammer throw. The mark was good for a second-place finish at the event which included multiple Division I institutions and easily outdistanced Gene Szweda’s (2004) previous record of 155-08 by nearly 10 feet.
DC is coming off a strong indoor campaign and will look to carry its success deep into the outdoor season. The Jackets will get their first chance to showcase their talents in front of a home crowd this Saturday when they host the Dick Small Invitational at Coressel Stadium.
