Zarembski Heads for NCAA Nationals

DEFIANCE, Ohio – Brad Zarembski will represent Defiance College at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships on Friday in the high jump competition. This marks the second-straight year that the Yellow Jackets have sent an athlete to nationals as pole vault specialist Eric Nicely represented DC on the national stage one year ago.

Zarembski showed steady improvement throughout the season, turning in his top two performances in his final two meets of the season. The freshman set a new career high with a score of 6-08.00 on May 12 before soaring over 6-08.25 on Friday at the North Central College Gregory Invitational. That jump was the third best in school history and was tied for the eighth-best jump in the nation during the 2007 outdoor season.

The Toledo, Ohio, native will enter action at the Nationals on May 24-26 ranked eighth in the nation and is one of just four underclassmen to rank among the top 10 qualifiers in the high jump event.

Zarembski will compete at 6:00 pm on Friday in the high jump.

Zarembski will be competing against a tightly packed group of qualifiers. The top three jumpers have all cleared the 6-09 barrier with the next four having season bests of 6-08.75. Zarembski is among a trio of athletes at 6-08.25 and is followed by a pair of jumpers at 6-08.00.

Zarembski will jump on Friday at 6:00 pm with the hopes of becoming the sixth outdoor NCAA All-American in Defiance College history. The top eight competitors at the meet will be named All-American.
