DC Men and Women Take Fourth at Anderson Indoor Invitational

ANDERSON, Ind.– The Defiance College Track and Field team made its presence known Saturday at the Anderson University Invitational. Giving an outstanding team performance, many season-best were achieved, said Head Coach Matt Lydum. Lydum pointed out that the many of these finishes sent good messages of where the team currently stands relative to the HCAC.

The women were led by junior Julie Kern, who scored 11 points and came away with a season-best in the 55m hurdles of 10.47. Kern also scored in the high jump, clearing 4-09.75.

Freshmen Laura Derov and Aubry Schafer each brought home seven points with their valiant efforts in the throws and sprints. Derov threw a season-best of 35-03.00 in the shot put, while Schafer ran an 8.11 in the 55m dash, her season-best. Derov also scored in the weight throw with a throw of 32-11.75. Schafer placed seventh in the 200mdash with a time of 29.64.

Audric Warren had a first-place finish in the triple jump.

Also on the women’s side, Amanda Misencik ran a lifetime best of 8.24 in the 55m dash, while Kristyn Tooley jumped 29-08.75 in the triple jump to seize second place.

Samantha Higdon and Jessica Lipstraw continued to leave their mark in the weight throw with finishes of third and fourth place, respectively.

The women throwers dominated the shot put with 4 finishes in the top 10.

The women’s 4x4 team, consisting of Kelly Neff, Sarah Stopke, Amanda Zimmerman, and Schafer, also took home fourth place.

On the men’s side, Audric Warren and Trevor Matuszak led the men with first-place finishes in the triple jump and weight throw, respectively. Warren jumped a season-best of 40-08.25 to take the triple jump. Matuszak threw his season-best of 48-10.00 to win the weight throw.

Freshman Mark Leugers continued his exceptional season with second-place finishes in both the 55m dash and triple jump. Leugers set a season-best of 6.78 for the 55m dash, not to mention he took 3rd in the long jump with a season-best jump of 20-04.25.

Other strong men’s performances came from junior Matt Fosnaugh, who jumped 13-06.25 in the pole vault, earning him second-place. Kallin St. John finished fourth in the shot put with a season-best throw of 44-02.50. Benji Hughes jumped 5-05.00, good for fifth-place in the high jump.

The men’s 4x200m relay, consisting of Leugers, Alan Thompson, Warren and Phil Williamson, set a season-best of 1:38.84 and earned a fourth-place finish.

In the triple jump, the men had a dominant showing with finishes of first, second, and fourth place.

Defiance will be back to work on Friday, February 9 with a meet at Ohio Northern and Saturday, February 10 at Otterbein for the All-Ohio meet.
