Matuszak Shatters Own School Record

Billy Hayes Invitational results: Combined results

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Trevor Matuszak shattered his own school record in the hammer throw and Brad Zarembski earned a third-place finish at Indiana University’s Billy Hayes Invitational on Friday, May 9.

Matuszak’s throw of 196-06.00 broke his own school record by over three feet on his way to a fourth-place finish, remaining undefeated against Div. III opponents in the event this season. The two-time HCAC Athlete of the Month award winner has the best throw in Div. III this season by over five feet, having thrown automatic qualifying marks on six throws this season.

Zarembski cleared 6-06.75 in the high jump, despite rainy conditions. The 2007 Outdoor All-American also remains undefeated against Div. III opponents this season, having already provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships after clearing 6-07.00 at the Manchester Invitational on April 5.

Matuszak owns the nation's top hammer throw mark.

Defiance will return to action next week, May 15-16, at the Gregory Invitational on the campus of North Central College.
