DC Track Competes at Cedarville Invite

Men's Results / Women's Results

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – The Defiance College Track and Field team competed at the Cedarville Invitational on Friday night, turning in several strong individual performances and taking seventh place among 16 teams in the standings on the women’s side.

Much like the season-opening event at Ohio Northern one week ago, the Lady Jackets’ best events came in the shot put and weight throw.

Freshman Amanda Tooley set a new personal best and placed 10th in the shot put with a throw of 34-02.75 and was followed closely in the standings by a trio of freshmen teammates. Laura Derov (33-00.75) and Jessica Lipstaw (33-00.00) finished 14th and 15th and Samantha Higdon’s toss of 31-06.50 gave Defiance four individuals in the top 20.

Higdon and Lipstraw also placed highly in the weight throw competition. Hidgon led the way with a ninth-place showing and a throw of 39-05.00, while Lipstraw took 10th with a throw of 37-11.25.

Three other Lady Jackets performed well in multiple events as Aubry Schafer cracked the top 20 in the 55-meter sprint and ended 16th in the 200-meter race.

Julie Kern ran third in the 55-meter hurdles and jumped 4-08.00 in the high jump for a sixth-place finish.

Kristyn Tooley rounded out the evening for Defiance by taking seventh place in the long jump as well as the triple jump events. Tooley leapt 13-10.00 in the long jump and turned in a score of 29-09.50 in the triple jump.

The men’s team was led by one of the top times in DC’s indoor history in the 4x200-meter relay. Alan Thompson, Audric Warren, Matt Fosnaugh and Mark Leugers placed third in their group and ninth overall. The time of 1:39.59 was also the fifth-best time in Defiance’s indoor history.

Leugers also performed well in the long jump with a leap of 20-02.00 for twelfth place, and Warren and Thompson took 11th and 12th overall in the triple jump.

Kallin St. John led DC in the shot put with a toss of 42-05.00 for a seventh-place finish.

Defiance will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Anderson University.
