Jackets Compete at Gregory Invitational

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Three individuals on the Defiance College Track & Field team competed at the Gregory Invitational this week, May 13-16, on the campus of North Central College.

Eric Swartz provisionally qualified in the decathlon for the second consecutive season, racking up 6080 points in the two-day event. The senior was at his best in the running events, scoring 748 points in the 100m (11.52) and 704 points in the 110m hurdles (16.26). Austin Trivett finished seventh in the decathlon with a personal-best score of 5586. The Defiance, Ohio native scored 726 points in the 110m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 16.06.

Brad Zarembski wrapped up his season with an eight-place finish, clearing 6-04.25. The sophomore provisionally qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships at the Manchester Invitational, clearing 6-07.00 and is currently ranked 22nd in the nation.

Swartz scored a season-high 6080 points in the decathlon.

Defiance will send one athlete, Trevor Matuszak, to compete in the NCAA Outdoor Championships on May 22-24 in Oshkosh, Wisc.
