Watch Matuszak's Throw
ADA, Ohio Senior Trevor Matuszak threw nearly four feet farther than his previous personal-best to finish second in the men’s weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championship meet. Matuszak is set to become Defiance’s seventh track & field All-American when the official list is announced on Sunday evening.
The Ottawa Lake, Mich. native threw 62-02.25 on his second throw of the day, giving him the lead after the first two throws and breaking his own record of 58-11.25. However, Noah Gauthier of Bates College would eventually take over that lead with a toss of 63-01.25 and claim the individual crown.
“I knew I needed to make a big throw to be competitive, but I knew I had it in me. All my work this season has been setting me up for this moment,” Matuszak said. It’s been a humbling experience to be here, every athlete here is just as good as anyone else. I’m just glad I had the opportunity to be apart of such an event, it has been a great experience.”
