Jackets Compete at Joe Banks Invitational

Joe Banks Invitational results: Men / Women

ADA, Ohio –The Defiance College track & field team competed in its first post-season meet this weekend at the Joe Banks Invitational on May 2-3. The Lady Jackets finished second after accumulating 44 points in the meet, while the men’s team scored 52 points to earn a third-place finish.

Trevor Matuszak and Brad Zarembski each garnered event titles for DC. Matuszak, who is yet to beaten in the hammer throw this season, won the event by 34 feet with his winning throw of 189-02.00. Zarembski is undefeated in the high jump this outdoor season, winning the men’s event after clearing 6-05.50.

The men scored 23 points in the decathlon as Eric Swartz, Austin Trivett and Matt Fosnaugh finished 1-2-4 respectively. Swart set a personal-best in the 100m (11.50) on his way to racking up 5758 points in his first decathlon event this season. Trivett cleared 13-06.25 in the pole vault to help tally 5323 points, while Fosnaugh

Tooley led Defiance with 14 points in the meet.
threw a personal-best 142-03 in the javelin on his way to 4478 points.

Nic Alvarez finished fourth in the men’s 800m with a time of 2:04.29, while Danny Rodriguez earned a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw.

Kristin Goldstein, Alex Thiel and Bria Gendron finished 2-3-4 in the heptathlon as DC scored 19 points in the event. Goldstein set personal-bests in the high jump (4-08.25) and the 200m (26.73), finishing with 3290 points in the event. Thiel set personal-bests in the high jump (4-11.75) and long jump (16-02.50) to score 3054 points, while Gendron’ s cleared 4-08.25 in the high jump to help her score 2667 points.

Amanda Tooley scored 14 points in the meet, finishing second in the hammer throw (139-11.00) and third in the shot put (37-03.75). Emily Cole broke her own school record in the pole vault, clearing 10-00.00 to finish third. Courtney Lantz finished fourth in the pole vault, clearing 9-06.25.

Defiance will return to action next weekend, May 9, at the Billy Hayes Invitational on the campus of Indiana University.
