Matuszak Repeats as HCAC Male Athlete of the Month

GREENWOOD, Ind. – For the sixth time in eight months a Defiance College student athlete has been named the HCAC Male Athlete of the Month as Trevor Matuszak netted his second straight award on Tuesday, May 6. The two-time winner is the only male track and field athlete to ever receive the honor.

After an incredible indoor season that saw him garner All-American honors in the weight throw, the accolades continue to pile up for Matuszak. The senior track and field performer recorded NCAA qualifying marks in all three of his meets this month, including his 193-06.00 mark to win the HCAC Championships by 32 feet. That mark automatically qualified him for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, while giving him the top hammer throw mark in Div. III this season.

He won his second HCAC Field Athlete of the Week honor this season on April 14, after setting an All-Ohio Outdoor Championships record on his way to his second-straight All-Ohio Outdoor crown in the hammer throw.

Matuszak's mark of 193-06.00 tops Div. III this season.
The White Cloud, Mich. native also won the Manchester Invite, throwing 33 feet farther than his nearest competitor. Matuszak competed in the hammer throw this past weekend, May 3, at the Joe Banks Invitational, throwing another NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 189-02.00 to remain undefeated this outdoor season.

Matuszak and the DC track and field team return to action this weekend at the Billy Hayes Invitational on the campus of Indiana University.
