ANDERSON, Ind. The Defiance College men’s track & field team scored 46 points through the first five events of the HCAC Championships. After the first day of the two-day event the Jackets trail Rose-Hulman by just five points.
Trevor Matuszak led the way for DC, winning the hammer throw with a toss of 193-06.00. His mark tops the NCAA Div. III this season by over two feet, while also making him one of two individuals to automatically qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Nic Neihaus added four more points in the event for the Jackets, finishing fifth.
Defiance got a 1-2-3 finish in the pole vault as Matt Fosnaugh cleared 13-09.25 to edge teammate Austin Trivett on attempts. Eric Swartz finished third in the event, clearing 13-03.25. Swartz and Trivett also qualified for the finals of the 110m hurdles after strong performances in the preliminaries.
