Zimmerman sets school record for DC Track & Field

ADA, Ohio A strong showing by the Defiance College Track & Field was capped off by a record-setting performance by Amanda Zimmerman, who helped DC to a fifth-place finish at the Friday Night Series Meet at Ohio Northern.
Zimmerman ran a 1:25.41 in the 500 meter dash, besting the previous school record held by Lenda Butcher by 0.02 seconds. Zimmerman was able to come away with a fourth place finish in the event. This is the second DC Track record that Zimmerman holds currently. Her time of 1:51.43 in the 600 meter dash is also best in school history.
Other solid performances came from the female athletes, including a sixth-place finish in the 400 meter dash by Kelly Neff, with a time of 1:10.56. In the pole vault, Julie Kern came in fifth, going over 2.29 meters. Kern also finished seventh in the high jump, clearing 1.43 meters. The
The freshmen throwers also continued to show improvement, as Laura Derov, Samantha Higdon, and Amanda Tooley finished eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively in the weight throw.
On the men’s side, Bradley Zarembski had one of the highest finishes of the day for DC, coming in third in the high jump with a height of 1.88 meters. Eric Swartz finished tied for fourth in the same event with a mark of 1.83.
However, the top male finish of the day came from Trevor Matuszak, with a second-place result in the weight throw. Matuszak's toss came down after going 15.42 meters.
Mark Leugers also had impressive third-place showing in the long jump, going for 6.42. In addition, he had a respectable eighth-place finish in the 55-meter dash at 6.85.
Alan Thompson went for a distance of 12.47 meters to come in fourth in the triple jump. Four Yellow Jackets finished in the top ten in the event, including Leugers, Zarembski, and Audric Warren.
Defiance will head to Depauw next Saturday for a final qualifier before the NCAA Nationals.
