Jackets Use All-Around Performance to Finish Third

Beaver Invitational Combined Results

BLUFFTON, Ohio – Defiance College ended third on Saturday in the Beaver Invitational hosted by Bluffton University. The Lady Jackets earned 115 points to finish ahead of Huntington, Bluffton and Tri-State in the standings.

DC rode multiple strong showings in the field events to the solid team performance. The Jackets earned multiple top fives in the shot put and hammer throw competitions, while also scoring top fives in the discuss and javelin.

Amanda Tooley led the way with a third-place finish in the shot and a fourth-place effort in the hammer throw. Laura Derov also took a pair of top-five finishes in the shot and javelin, and Jessica Lipstraw ended fifth in the discuss and sixth in the hammer throw.

Kristin Goldstein led DC in the sprints, taking fifth in the 100-meter dash and scoring a personal best and sixth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.79.

Courtney Lantz also registered a new personal best with a time of 2:32.99 in the 800-meter run en route to a sixth-place finish.

Other top performers included a pair of top fives by Julie Kern and Kasey Carlisle in the 100 and 400-meter hurdles.

Defiance will continue its outdoor season next Saturday, when it competes at Manchester on April 5.
