Field Events Lift Jackets to Second-Place Finish

Dick Small Invitational Combined Results

DEFIANCE, Ohio –The Defiance College women’s track and field team used strong performances in the field events to help them tally 161.50 points on their way to a second-place finish at the Dick Small Invitational on Friday, March 21. Cornerstone University won the women’s team title with 179.50 points in the meet.

Holly Stein led the Lady Jackets with two individual crowns, winning both the discus (119-07) and the shot put (34-01.50). Samantha Higdon was one of four other DC women to win events, winning the hammer throw with a toss of 135-07.00. Kristin Goldstein ran a personal-best 13.16 to win the 100m, while also finishing third in the 200m dash with a time of 28.19. Laura Derov took home the javelin crown with a throw of 81-05.00. Emily Cole edged teammate Alex Thiel on attempts to win the pole vault after both cleared 8-06.00, the two frosh had the second-best pole vault performance in school history.

Courtney Lantz finished second in the 400m dash with a time of 1:06.25, while Amanda Tooley had a pair of third-place finishes in the shot put (33-11.50) and the hammer throw (111-06.00).

Defiance returns to action next Saturday, March 29 at the Beaver Invitational on the campus of Bluffton University.
