Volleyball Sweeps Centre, Splits Day Two at Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Sara Porter flirted with a triple-double performance, as Defiance notched its first win of the season with a 3-0 sweep over Centre. Prior to picking up the victory, the Yellow Jackets dropped their first match of the day, falling in straight sets to No. 2 Wittenberg on the Tigers’ home court.

Wittenberg defeated Defiance 30-12, 30-17, 30-16 in the first match of the afternoon for DC. Danyel Lipps led the squad with 11 kills, two aces and eight digs, while Heather Bradshaw provided 22 digs.

The Jackets got in the win column in Saturday’s second match, blanking Centre by a 30-25, 30-14, 30-18 score.

Porter led the charge with an outstanding all-around performance, registering 12 kills, 10 digs and seven service aces. Lipps tacked on nine kills and 16 digs and Lauren Aldridge posted double-figure kills for the second time in three matches with 11.

Lipps racked up 19 kills and 26 digs in DC's two matches.

Defiance also got strong contributions from Brittany Cooley and Ashton Judis who combined for 27 assists and Bradshaw tacked on 20 digs.

DC (1-2) will be back in action on Friday and Saturday when it hosts the Defiance College Invitational. The Lady Jackets will kick things off with a match against John Carroll at 3:00 pm.
